Sam Andrea

In the former art history institute of the UVA, the Vriend van Bavink gallery presents a one-off solo exhibition by Sam Andrea.

For this exhibition, Andrea left the Amsterdam nightlife that he normally calls his home and left for Lab Kalkhorst, a castle in former East Germany. The abandoned, lonely and alienating scenes in his paintings are directly connected to his experiences there, but tell a self-contained story that can touch everyone and appeal to the imagination. The figuration in the work balances on a line between reality, dream world and total madness. In his search for a way to make paintings that are beyond time, he finds beauty in the grotesque and romance in the hopeless.

During the exhibition there will be various mini exhibitions and events by artist friends.
